Family volunteer hours (FVH) are vital to the success of Cathedral School. Volunteer hours strengthen the Cathedral community, keep the school’s operating costs low, and help with day to day operations. In the past, we have not required families to do a set number of hours. Over the years, participation has dropped dramatically and the same families are always volunteering.
Beginning in June 2010, families were required to log 20 volunteer hours over the course of one year. Hours may be completed by parents, guardians, grandparents or close family members or friends. Each volunteer hour is worth $20. If at the end of the year (the last day of school), you have not completed your 20 hours, you will be assessed $20 for every incomplete volunteer hour. FVH that are not completed will be treated as unpaid tuition. You may opt out of volunteering all together but you will be charged $400 and this amount will be added to your yearly tuition.
The activities that qualify for FVH are listed below. There may be other opportunities that arise during the school year but will need to be approved by the Development Director. There are ways to eliminate all your hours based on your activity. If you chair any event or if you take over a fundraising event for the entire year (SCRIP, SavAround coupons, etc.) your entire 20 hours will be waived.
VERY IMPORTANT: You are responsible for turning in your log form. We do not keep track of your hours until you turn them in. All log forms MUST be turned in to the school office if you are to get credit for what you have done.
