“As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
Baptism
“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: ‘Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and in the word.’” (CCC 1213)
Infant Baptism
The Church rejoices with you at the birth of your child! We at the Cathedral look forward to aiding and accompanying you and your child on the journey to eternal life with God.
As Jesus himself instructed his disciples to “let the little children come to me,” the Church encourages children to be initiated into the life of the Church in the first few weeks after birth. Parents, as the primary educators of their children in the faith, are expected to bring their children to Mass each week, bring them up in the practice of the faith, and instruct their children in the knowledge of God and his Church. The Church takes seriously this obligation.
As such, parents preparing to have their first child baptized are required to schedule a preparatory class with the priest.
To schedule a baptism, a preparatory class, or for further questions, please contact the parish offices at 522-3342 or see our FAQs.
Baptism for Children 7+ Years of Age
For children above the age of reason, the Church requires that the child be initiated fully in the sacramental life of the Church, receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. For more information on how to have your child instructed for Christian Initiation, please contact the parish offices at 522-3342.
Adult Baptism
Adults interested in baptism should inquire about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) or contact the parish offices at 522-3342 for further questions.
